On a mutual initiative, the President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon had a telephone conversation with the leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselski.
During the conversation, the officials exchanged views on the situation in the negotiation process between Chisinau and Tiraspol, discussed some results of the Confidence Building Working Groups meetings. The interlocutors agreed to continue the dialogue in order to find solutions to problems that would help build trust between people on both banks of the Dniester.
The parties separately analyzed the current situation in the Security Zone, in the areas adjacent to the Dniester. They especially drew attention to the situation in the villages of the Dubossary region: Kochieri, Vasilyevka, Novaya Molovata, Rogi, etc., the village of Kopanka, Kaushany region and others - whose residents are forced to get to the right bank only by ferry across the Dniester. This situation is due to a number of measures taken by the Transnistrian structures to combat the COVID-19 virus epidemic, which caused serious problems for the residents of these settlements.
The officials reached an agreement that the parties would take the necessary measures to facilitate the movement of residents between the two banks of the Dniester. The head of state confirmed that Chisinau, for its part, will make efforts to prevent any measures or actions that could be aimed at infringing the rights of residents of the Transnistrian region. Igor Dodon expressed a common point of view with Mr. Krasnoselsky that it was necessary to take all the necessary actions to protect people in the fight against the virus.
“The health of people is the highest value, but at the same time it is necessary to provide assistance in overcoming the socio-economic consequences,” the President of the Republic of Moldova summed up.
