President welcomes parliament's declaration on stability, modernisation of Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti has expressed solidarity with the Moldovan parliament’s initiative to approve “The Declaration on the stability and modernisation of Moldova.” Under the document, the lawmakers commit to promote political stability and strengthen the country’s European integration, in line with the provisions of the Association Agreement signed with the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state made the following statement:

“The MPs’ decision to join efforts, in cooperation with the government and the civil society, in order to recover the arrears in working out and implementing the package of laws on the Association Agenda, is a signal to the society and development partners of Moldova about the enhancing of the political responsibility of the governing elite.

The carrying out of the ten commitments, stipulated in the Moldovan parliament’s Declaration, will contribute to re-establishing citizens’ trust in the institutions of the state and, first of all, will bring Moldova again into the area of reforms and modernisation, without ever contesting the European vocation of our people.

The Moldovan citizens deserve a better living and the policies promoted by the authorities should be focused on this major objective of the government. In this context, the political class is obliged to urgently adopt the legislative framework for fighting corruption and promoting integrity, in order to ensure predictability and transparency in the business environment, banking system and public administration.

I want to believe that, by the Declaration passed at the first meeting of Moldova’s parliament of the present session, not only the transparency of the governance act will be insured, but the morals itself will become a value in the government policy.

Let us be united, perseverant and consistent in the name of our people’s well-being!”
