The two officials had a bilateral meeting followed by talks in expanded format with the participation of delegations of Moldova and Bulgaria.
The officials also tackled the Moldovan presidential elections and President noted that pro-European course had to move forward regardless of the person elected as the president of Moldova, so that Moldova to join the democracies of success.
Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, appointed today by presidential decree Igor Cutie, the chief of the General Staff of the National Army, National Army Commander.
For their part, the delegation members stressed the need of the holding of fair elections and reiterated EP’s backing for Moldova. In the context, Igor Šoltes highlighted the role of the president in the democratic process.
Sandra Kalniete, the leader of the delegation, stressed that this election to be important for the reputation of the Republic of Moldova, being pursued by the European institutions and international lenders.
President Nicolae Timofti on 12 October received the letters of accreditation of three Chisinau-based ambassadors.
Swedish Parliament Speaker noted that Sweden supported Moldova since Independence and would continue this approach for the time to come.
