Moldovan president sees top court's independence as confirmation of work of rule of law state

President Nicolae Timofti today participated in the first congress of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions.  

In the opening of the congress, President Timofti gave a speech, in which he welcomed the event hosted by the Moldovan Constitutional Court, titled Role of Constitutional Courts in Protection Democratic Values.   

The head of state stressed the stabilizing role of Moldova’s Constitutional Court, both in the legal and in the political and historical contexts. “Guaranteeing the independence of the Constitutional Court, implicitly of the judges it is made up, represents the fundamental condition for the fulfillment of their role, as well as a confirmation of the work of the rule of law state.”   

Also, Nicolae Timofti voiced confidence that the foundation of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions was auspicious and was aimed at promoting the good jurisdictional practices in terms of constitutional law.  

Attending the congress were also Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the presidents of the Constitutional Courts of the Association member countries and representatives of the constitutional jurisdiction from the zone of the Baltic and Black Seas’ region.
